Essential dimensions of finite groups
Let K be an arbitrary field and G be a finite group. We will study the essential dimension of G over K, which is denoted by edK(G). A generalization of the central extension theorem of Buhler and Reichstein (Compositio Math. 106 (1997) 159–179, Theorem 5.3) is obtained. As a corollary, it can be proved that edK(Sn) ≥ ⌊ 2 ⌋ and edK(An) ≥ 2⌊ n 4 ⌋ for any field K with charK 6= 2, while edK(Sn) ≥ ...
متن کاملInsertion of a xylanase in xylose binding protein results in a xylose-stimulated xylanase
BACKGROUND Product inhibition can reduce catalytic performance of enzymes used for biofuel production. Different mechanisms can cause this inhibition and, in most cases, the use of classical enzymology approach is not sufficient to overcome this problem. Here we have used a semi-rational protein fusion strategy to create a product-stimulated enzyme. RESULTS A semi-rational protein fusion stra...
متن کاملPseudo-reflection groups and essential dimension
We give a simple formula for the essential dimension of a finite pseudoreflection group at a prime p and determine the absolute essential dimension for most irreducible pseudo-reflection groups. We also study the “poor man’s essential dimension” of an arbitrary finite group, an intermediate notion between the absolute essential dimension and the essential dimension at a prime p.
متن کاملESSENTIAL COHOMOLOGY AND EXTRASPECIAL p-GROUPS
Let p be an odd prime number and let G be an extraspecial pgroup. The purpose of the paper is to show that G has no non-zero essential mod-p cohomology (and in fact that H∗(G, Fp) is Cohen-Macaulay) if and only if |G| = 27 and exp(G) = 3.
متن کاملProduction of Single Cell Protein, Essential Amino Acids, and Xylanase by Penicillium Janthinellum
Microbial biomass having 46% crude protein content and enriched with essential amino acids as well as extracellular xylanase activity (100-150 IU/ml) was produced by an efficient fungal strain, Penicillium janthinellum (NCIM St-F-3b). Optimization studies for maximum xylanase and biomass production showed that the fungus required a simple medium containing bagasse hemicellulose as carbon source...
